New Year, New Goals
Happy New Year!
I can't believe it is 2016 already. The New Year means, of course, News Years resolutions. As mentioned in my previous post (http://createdtocreatekle.blogspot.com/2015/12/15-lessons-from-2015.html), a lot of my resolutions are continuing in the lessons learned from last year. I don't make my New Years resolutions to be a measurable expectation or goal, but rather ideals similar to a mission statement of how I would like to live in the next year. These are specific items that I pray about and strive for, creating more specific check points as the year goes on.With out further ado, here is my list of 16 goals for 2016.
1. Strive for balance= My main goal and word for the year is balance. I tend to be an all-or-nothing type of person. Unfortunately, as a student, academics can take up as much time as your willing to put into it. This year I would like to achieve a sense of balance in school, lifestyle, social life, and church. = "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of time, because the days are evil." Eph. 5:15-16
2. Be brave: Not letting fear hold me back = "Fear not. for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you." Is. 41:10
3. Love others and actively express my love & appreciation= "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35
4. Be an encourager = " Therefore encourage one another and build one another up just as you are doing." 1 Thess. 5:11
5. Spend quiet time with God daily = "Be still, and know that I am God..." Psalm 46:10
6. Be a problem solver: Don't just complain when problems arise = "Do all things without grumbling or complaining..." Phil. 2:14
7. Do not worry! Live life day to day. = "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matt. 6:34
8. Live a healthier lifestyle: Ex. Regular rest, exercise, and diet choice evaluations. Eat fresh when ever possible. = "'All things are lawful for me', but not all things are helpful. 'All things are lawful for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything.'" 1 Cor. 6:12
9. Be intentional in conversation. = "Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you know how you ought to answer each person." Col. 4:5-6
10. Try new things, be open to new ideas.= "So as to to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God." Col. 1:10
11. Commit and get involved with a church family. = " To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ." Eph. 4:12
12. Manage my finances: Keep track of everything coming in and going out and develop a savings strategy. = " One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much..." Luke 16:10
13. Set boundaries. Do not be a doormat!= "He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8
14. Work hard! Work for a higher purpose. = " Whatever you do, work heartily, as if for the Lord and not for men." Col. 3:23
15. Be available and conscious of God given opportunities= " And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' Then I said, 'Here I am! Send me.'" Is. 6:8
16. Pray in EVERY circumstance= "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thess. 5:16-18
I am posting these in a public way, mainly so that I can reference them but also so that those reading this can help keep me accountable in working towards my goals for this year. I know I will fail in these many times but my prayer is that this time next year, I will be able to see some growth in these areas as part of my journey along the narrow way.
May the Lord Bless You & Keep You,
