Week 2-Bonding with the Church and Readers

привет!
This past week was the first full week of reading sessions and our team read for a combined total of 57 hours. We have about 10 readers each, with additional readers signing up every few days. We also had our first party or social gathering this Sunday with about 30 people in attendance.

Some of my readers come daily, while others come a few times a week but it amazing to see how in such a short time, we are becoming more comfortable with one another allowing for deeper conversations. It is also incredible to witness personal growth in both English skills and understanding of the scripture. One thing I have learned is that each reader may have a different understanding of the text and learning how to determine confusion or "aha" moments with each individual is key. One of the biggest challenges currently is remembering what conversations I have had with what reader, and also what teaching style works best with whom. Reading the same lessons with multiple readers can a bit confusing, but thankfully my readers help keep me straight.

On Thursday night, after all our reading appointments were over, we attended a small group bible study with the young adults of the local church. This was a great time of fellowship, study, and discussion. On Friday afternoon, I went with a few of the young adults to help with a children's street festival. This was put on by the church to minister to local refugee families. We played outdoor games with the children and also fed them a snack. I didn't understand what was going on most of the time, but it was loads of fun regardless.

I spent most of Saturday planning for our party the next day: creating games, shopping, and preparing food. We also had a cookout in the rain with church members, and I had one (okay 2) of the best burgers I have had in a long time.

On Sunday we attended class and church services. I absolutely love hearing people praising God in another language! I try to follow along as best I can, but sometimes I just sit and listen in awe, knowing that what sounds like gibberish to me has deep meaning to them. After church we made some last minute preparations for our party. The theme of our party was tour of the U.S.A and we served homemade apple cobbler (to represent apple pie), icecream, and drinks which were all a hit! My team each gave a short presentation about ourselves/family and the state we are from and then we played a few get-to-know you games using fun facts about the U.S. We had lots of good feedback from our readers about the party and also gained a few new readers.

Sunday night, some young people from the church decided to show us around some of the sites in Kiev. We went to dream town (similar to our malls) and then to the center of the city and old town. It was a great time with friends and a great end to the week!
May God be Glorified,
K.L.E
