Week 3- When the Teacher Becomes the Student

This week my team read for a combined total of 78 hours and I gained 4 new readers. It is becoming easier to develop a rhythm with each lesson and reader but can sometimes be difficult to nudge readers to a deeper discussion of the text. Everyday, I learn new things about my readers, the scriptures, and even myself which is something I didn't expect. Many of my readers have kept me on my toes with different perspectives, examples, and questions challenging me to examine the scriptures for more than face-value.

I have a wide range of readers in age, spiritual development and English understanding. The age of my readers vary from 10-60 and include everyone from a few agnostics, to those who could almost quote the stories in their sleep. As far as English skill, I have readers who I communicate almost solely through google translate and charades and others that can speak and comprehend English at the speed of a freight train. All of my readers have different needs that are distinct and ever-changing .

~Highlights from the week~
Monday and Tuesday evenings were spent hanging out and relaxing with young people from the church. Monday night we watched an English movie, that had a Russian voice over and English subtitles. It was very interesting to say the least. Tuesday, we went with new church friends to Dominos pizza.

Wednesday and Thursday evenings were spent at small group bible studies: a good time for fellowship.
Friday afternoon, one of my readers invited me to hangout with her. I also invited some of the young people from church and we had a great time together shopping and rollerskating.

On Saturday, one of Sean's readers, Victoria, took us on a Tour of Kiev. We visited the Chernobyl museum and learned about the historical Old Town Kiev while shopping with street vendors located on the Andriyivskyy Descent. It was great to experience Kiev from a native who understands the heart of the city and also to learn more about her and her sweet family.

On Sunday we worshipped with the church family and then helped with the children's program for refugee kids.
Myself and a few of the young women from the church snuck away to prepare a surprise party for Rett, one of my teammates who was leaving early. We went back to my flat and prepared a traditional Ukrainian meal.

I anticipate a long and busy week ahead because of taking on some of Rett's readers as well as my own, but I am excited to see where our conversations lead.

Please pray for strength and energy to get through each day and that God's seed will continue to penetrate and grow in the hearts of our readers.

May God Be Glorified,
K.L.E
